Editing Process

Your questions are welcome at any point in the process.

This is all about making sure you are more than satisfied with the results.  Here’s how an editing project usually works:

Your Time

  • I know your time is valuable, so I offer standard and rush processing for all projects.
  • Standard: 3-5 days for 20-page manuscript; longer manuscripts or more complex projects may take longer.
  • Rush processing: For an additional fee, rush service is available.  If you require rush service, please contact me directly to discuss how I can help you meet your deadline(s).  Total time and rates depend upon project complexity, level of editing required, document length, etc.

Your Estimate

Your Agreement/Contract

  • Once you decide on the services you want, I send a succinct plain-language agreement (contract) which outlines the services to be provided, the scope of the project, a payment schedule, and our mutual responsibilities.
  • Typically, I require payment of 1/2 of the cost at the outset for all new clients and the remaining amount when we complete the project.
  • Editing will only begin when we have mutually agreed to the terms of the project.

Your Payment

  • Click here to request a free estimate or learn more about my rates.
  • I offer two payment options:
    1. Single payment:  For simplicity, you may pay when you agree to the contract and authorize me to begin editing.
    2. Two payments: If you are unable to pay the full fee at the outset, I will accept 50% payment prior to starting work on your project.  The remaining 50% will be required upon completion of the project.  I will notify you when your project is finished, and will return the project files upon receipt of the final payment.
  • I prefer payment by direct deposit, and can provide bank details upon request. I accept payment by check and PayPal as well.

Your Project

  • All suggested revisions or clarifications will be made using a “track changes” function, so that you are able to compare my editorial recommendations with your original text.
  • At all times, you retain all copyrights and licenses to your content and text.
    • However, as the editor, I own all rights to revisions and suggestions until you pay for them.
    • I will not share your material without your written authorization; your material remains strictly confidential.
    • I understand that your intellectual property, data, and other materials are fundamental to the success of your project, and will steward them accordingly.
  • Once you receive the completed project, you are welcome to ask questions about any corrections or editorial suggestions made to the text.

Follow-up

  • If you would like me to edit and proofread minor revisions in a text I have already edited, I am happy to do so.  Minor revisions constitute less than 2% of your document.
  • For new and substantially revised text for a project I have already edited, I can offer a discount.
  • New projects will be subject to a new quote/fee.
  • Of course, I like to hear about the outcomes of your project.  Please let me know once your project is published, receives awards or positive reviews, or is otherwise successful!

“I’m really happy with your comments, they contribute a lot to improve the proposal! What you mean is it’s not  so much about what I did, but the way to present it and make sure the referee will understand why it’s important.  I love it!” Ecology researcher re project proposal submitted to European Commission’s Marie Curie Actions International Outgoing Fellowship program; France
